Paris – (2 June 2023) As the second Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-2) on a global agreement on plastic pollution concludes in Paris, the following statement can be attributed to Virginia Janssens, Managing Director of Plastics Europe:

Plastics Europe, the association of plastics manufacturers in Europe, and EuPC, the association of European Plastics Converters, announce today the launch of the Operation Clean Sweep® (OCS) harmonised European certification scheme. Adding this new tool to the OCS toolbox is a milestone for the OCS programme in its work towards zero pellet loss in the environment.

PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON OCS CERTIFICATION SCHEME

Plastics Europe is proud of sponsoring the Microplastics Early Career Workshop, taking place this late spring in beautiful Athens, Greece (14th-17th June 2022). The Workshop is a unique occasion for all stakeholders – but particularly for industry – to meet and interact with the microplastic experts of tomorrow. With an innovative format, this initiative aims to offer unprecedented insights in the future of research on this topic, at the same time exploring potential career opportunities in microplastics science beyond the academic world. In fact, Plastics Europe will be on the ground in Athens presenting ways to directly involve microplastics experts within industry: we believe this is a key element to find efficient solutions to this complex and pressing issue.

RecoTrace™, the multi-polymer data collection system to record data on both European plastics recycling volumes and recycled plastics, is now recognised by the Circular Plastics Alliance (CPA).

The production of plastics in the EU27 continued to rise in the third quarter 2021 despite a decline in EU27 manufacturing production - thanks to the ongoing demand from abroad.
