PlasticsEurope is pleased to announce today the appointment of Dr Markus Steilemann, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Covestro, as its President, effective immediately.

Gomi, a sustainable design studio located in Brighton in England, recently designed a portable charger made from plastic waste. Each charger is a unique, handmade item: it is made up of approximately 100 grams of plastics and its marbled colour varies according to the waste available at the time of manufacture.

VinylPlus goes further than the Circular Economy, addressing other sustainability topics such as energy and climate change, sustainable material sourcing and production and the responsible use of additives. Such key issues have been integrated into the VinylPlus® Product Label, the sustainability certification scheme for PVC products in the building and construction sector delivering the highest sustainability performance and contribution to the Circular Economy. To date, ten companies have received the VinylPlus® Product Label for more than 100 PVC products manufactured at 18 European sites.

PlasticsEurope, the pan-European association of plastic manufacturers, has appointed Alicia Martín as the new General Manager for the Iberian Region, who will take office from June 1, 2020. Alicia has been linked to PlasticsEurope for more than 15 years both in the Iberian Region and at the headquarters of the association in Brussels.

Faced with environmental challenges, the automotive industry must reinvent itself. Their design departments are working hard, using new technologies and new developments in materials. Among which, plastics still have many advantages to offer.

It is with great sadness that PlasticsEurope needs to inform that Dr Rüdiger Baunemann, Director General of PlasticsEurope Deutschland e.V. passed away unexpectedly on 17 April 2020.

It is rectangular, covered with solar panels, can slip in anywhere and can manoeuvre in all directions. In a word, it is unique! Its name is Recyclamer, a solar-powered robot capable of cleaning up aquatic environments by collecting both solid and liquid waste.

Cycling, which was until now reserved for Sunday outings or for experienced sportsmen and women, is currently booming, particularly in urban areas.

At the CES 2020 held in Las Vegas earlier this year, a car manufacturer unveiled a new sound insulation material: a solution to reduce noise inside cars and make driving more comfortable. 

Long considered an old-fashioned object that summoned vague memories of camping trips and mountain hikes, and accordingly forgotten at the back of a wardrobe, the water bottle is now making a comeback. A symbol of an eco-responsible mindset, it has quickly become one of the flagship objects of sustainable development.
