24 May 2024 Call for Member States to support an EU Sustainable Carbon Policy Package as a part of a future green EU Industrial Deal Any future European Industrial Deal to complement the Green Deal should include measures to develop sustainable carbon markets and boost sustainable carbon availability while deploying instruments for imports to ensure a fair global level playing field. Creating market incentives in product regulation is key for the transition to sustainable carbon sources. These actions can work together with the update to the EU's Bioeconomy Strategy as well as the ongoing implementation of the Circular Economy Action Plan and the EU Industrial Carbon Management Strategy. 30 Nov 2023 Achieving greater circularity for automotive plastics through the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation Plastics Europe supports the high level of ambition shown by the European Commission in the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation proposal. To reach the target, the recognition for chemical recycling, operating in a complementary manner to mechanical recycling, as well as a separate additional circular plastics target will all be needed.

21 Sep 2023 Mandatory additional sorting of municipal mixed waste prior to landfill or incineration to meet recycling and carbon reduction targets needed Although the recycling rates for plastic waste are steadily increasing and landfilling keeps decreasing, around 65% of the post-consumer plastic waste collected in Europe is still sent to landfill or incineration . To support the transition of the European plastics systems towards higher circularity and to deliver higher quantities and qualities of recycled plastics, more plastic waste needs to be recovered from waste streams so that it can be recycled.
