At its plenary sitting in Strasbourg this week, the European Parliament will be asked to vote on the ENVI Committee’s proposed motion for a resolution objecting to the European Commission’s draft Implementing Act on measuring recycled content in Single Use Plastics (secondary legislation as a follow-up to the SUP Directive), rejecting the fuel-use exempt mass balance method as proposed by the Commission. 

The undersigned associations representing different segments of the packaging value chain, urge policy makers to agree on effective and realistic measures for transport packaging during the trilogue negotiations on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Such measures should take into account the real impact that reuse obligations have on certain packaging formats and related products.

Plenary vote is a missed opportunity to incentivise investments in circular plastics packaging.

We urge all stakeholders to redouble their efforts to find solutions in the run-up to INC-4

The fast Facts is a more visual and user-friendly format for the publication of preliminary global and European plastics production, trade partners and other key data. Finalised and more comprehensive data will be published in the ‘Circular Economy for Plastics – A European Overview’ report, early 2024.
