Sustainable production
The plastics industry permanently strives to minimize the impact of its production on the environment.
Contributing towards climate objectives
PlasticsEurope fully supports the objectives set out in the Paris Agreement and the European Union’s ambition to achieve climate-neutrality by 2050.
The severity of the climate crisis requires strong action if we are to successfully mitigate the impact of climate change through the creation of a low-carbon economy. In that view, we are improving the climate impact of all aspects of our operations, making our production processes increasingly energy and resource-efficient, and using more renewable energy. We are also growing the volumes of alternative feedstock from waste and renewable resources, thereby decoupling plastics production from fossil feedstock. As an industry, major advances in recycling and the creation of the circular economy are being made, both of which are crucial to reducing GHG emissions. We are also supporting new carbon capture solutions, with chemical companies testing new processes for the production of CO₂-based plastics.
Objective: zero pellet loss
Through initiatives like Operation Clean Sweep®, we are also implementing measurable actions in our facilities.
We are driving similar ones across the plastics value chain to eliminate pellet loss into the environment. We are working at avoiding any leakage of plastic pellets at the production stage but also during further downstream handling stages of transport, storage, etc.
