K 2025: Opening Day Highlights on October 8

Düsseldorf, 30. September 2025 – On 8 October, K 2025, the world’s leading trade fair for plastics and rubber, will open its doors in Düsseldorf. Plastics Europe, the association of plastics manufacturers, will curate the program on the main stage “Plastics Shape the Future” in Hall 6 / C40 throughout the entire fair duration, until 15 October. The program begins with the Power of Plastics Wednesday, featuring two forward-looking panel discussions. Senior leaders from the international plastics industry will explore key questions about the sector’s future: How can competitiveness and sustainability be balanced? And what innovations and investments are needed to drive the industry’s transformation successfully?

Kunststofferzeugung im zweiten Quartal rückläufig – Verband warnt vor wachsendem Wettbewerbsdruck

Frankfurt am Main, 16. September 2025 - Die Kunststofferzeugung in Deutschland ist im zweiten Quartal 2025 zurückgegangen. Nach Angaben von Plastics Europe Deutschland, dem Verband der Kunststofferzeuger, sank die Produktion von Kunststoffen in Primärformen um 4,3 Prozent gegenüber dem Vorquartal und lag 6,2 Prozent unter dem Vorjahreswert. Die Erzeugerpreise gaben um 0,6 Prozent nach, im Jahresvergleich um 2,4 Prozent. Der Branchenumsatz verringerte sich um 2,4 Prozent auf rund 6,3 Milliarden Euro.

Von Recycling bis KI – Science Slam auf der K 2025

Frankfurt am Main, 02. September 2025 – Am Sonntag, den 12. Oktober 2025, findet im Rahmen der K 2025 zum ersten Mal ein Science Slam statt. Das Konzept: Vier junge Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler präsentieren in jeweils 10 Minuten ihre Forschung, möglichst unterhaltsam und verständlich. Organisiert wird die Veranstaltung von Simon McGowan, von der Hochschule Hannover, in Kooperation mit Moderator Julien Bobineau, von D2 - Denkfabrik Diversität und Plastics Europe Deutschland, dem Verband der Kunststofferzeuger.

Eine neue Pilotstudie des Landesamts für Natur, Umwelt und Klima (LANUK) findet Mikroplastik im Rhein, zwischen Bonn und Duisburg. Das sagt die Inustrie.

Forscher finden Kunststoff im Rhein

Frankfurt am Main, 18.08. 2025 - Eine neue Pilotstudie des Landesamts für Natur, Umwelt und Klima (LANUK) in NRW hat gezeigt, dass industrielles Mikroplastik in den Rhein gelangt. Untersucht wurden Abwässer von vier Chemiestandorten und Wasserproben an neun Stellen des Rheins zwischen Bonn und Duisburg. In den Abwässern fanden die Forscher zwischen knapp einer und über zweitausend Kügelchen unter 1 mm (sogenannte Beads) pro Kubikmeter Wasser. Ein Kubikmeter entspricht etwa fünf gefüllten Badewannen. Das Ziel der Studie ist es, die Quellen der Verschmutzung genauer zu finden und Betriebe in der Region für das Problem zu sensibilisieren.

Stockende Gespräche in Genf: Plastics Europe drängt weiter auf multilaterale Einigung bei Plastikabkommen

Brüssel, 15.08.2025 - Die Industrie fordert die UN-Mitgliedsstaaten auf, in der nächsten Verhandlungsrunde zum globalen Plastikabkommen einen Konsens und geeignete Rahmenbedingungen zu schaffen, um die Umweltverschmutzung durch Kunststoffabfälle einzudämmen.

UN-Plastikabkommen: Plastics Europe sieht Kreislaufwirtschaft als Schlüssel zur Lösung

Frankfurt, 4. August 2025 – Vom 5. bis 14. August 2025 findet in Genf eine zusätzliche Verhandlungsrunde zum globalen Plastikabkommen (INC-5.2) statt. Plastics Europe sieht im Global Plastics Treaty eine einmalige Chance, die Transformation hin zu einer echten Kreislaufwirtschaft weltweit voranzutreiben. Der Verband der Kunststofferzeuger unterstützt ein ambitioniertes und rechtlich verbindliches Abkommen, das konkrete Fortschritte bei der Bekämpfung der Kunststoffverschmutzung ermöglicht.

Verbände empfehlen die Einführung von kompostierbaren Obst- und Gemüsebeuteln im Einzelhandel

Frankfurt am Main, 15. Juli 2025 – Plastics Europe Deutschland und sechs weitere Verbände sprechen sich im Zuge der neuen EU-Verpackungsverordnung dafür aus, kompostierbare Obst- und Gemüsebeutel im Einzelhandel zum neuen Standard zu machen. Nach Einschätzung der Verbände können kompostierbare Verpackungen in bestimmten Anwendungsbereichen dazu beitragen, Fehlwürfe zu reduzieren, die Bioabfallqualität zu verbessern und die Wiederverwertung organischer Materialien zu fördern.

Abstimmung zur EU-Altfahrzeugverordnung: Plastics Europe drängt auf höhere Recyclingziele

Brüssel, 08. Juli 2025 - Als Reaktion auf den Bericht der zuständigen EU-Parlamentsausschüsse zur Altfahrzeugverordnung (ECON/IMCO) fordert Plastics Europe ambitionierte Recyclingziele. Virginia Janssens, Geschäftsführerin von Plastics Europe, in Brüssel, erklärte:

Recycling im Auto-Sektor: Plastics Europe für schnellere Umsetzung der EU-Altfahrzeugverordnung

Brüssel, 17. Juni 2025 - Die folgende Stellungnahme kann Dr. Katharina Schlegel zugeordnet werden, Direktorin für Kreislaufwirtschaft bei Plastics Europe, in Brüssel: „Wir begrüßen die Fortschritte, die der Ministerrat heute bei der Altfahrzeugverordnung (ELVR) erzielt hat. Die Beschlüsse sind wichtig, da die Industrie jetzt einen klaren und verlässlichen Rechtsrahmen braucht, um Kreislauftechnologien zu skalieren. Doch auch wenn die heutigen Entwicklungen vielversprechend sind, sehen wir bei der Altfahrzeugverordnung weiterhin großes Verbesserungspotenzial.
