Plastics – The Facts 2022 beschikbaar <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021 steeg het aandeel recyclaat in nieuwe producten met 20% ten opzichte van 2020, zo blijkt uit “Plastics – The Facts 2022”<\/a>. Daarmee is het gemiddelde aandeel recyclaat in alle plastic producten nu bijna10%. Ondanks deze verbetering, laat het rapport zien dat een snellere systeemverandering naar circulariteit en netzero emissies nodig is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chemische recycling, als aanvullend instrument op mechanische recycling, is een belangrijke hefboom voor het versnellen van recycling en verduurzaming van plastics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ondanks de grote uitdagingingen die de industrie nu heeft, werkt ze onverminderd hard aan het verder reduceren van emissies en aan het verder ontkoppelen van fossiele grondstoffen.  In 2021 was 12,4% van de totale Europese plastics productie van niet-fossiele grondstoffen. Vanaf nu zal Plastics Europe dit jaarlijks meten en rapporteren We zullen dit jaarlijks meten, om voortgang te rapporteren op het ambitieuze EU-doel voor 2030 van 20% niet-fossiele grondstoffen in kunststofproducten. Een doelstelling die wij onderschrijven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zoals de ReShaping Plastics studie laat zien, moeten we al onze acties en interventies in alle upstream- en downstream ketens opvoeren om de doelstellingen van de Circular Plastics Alliance en de Richtlijn verpakkingen en verpakkingsafval te halen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Het is belangrijker dan ooit dat er een kader en ondersteunend beleid komt, zodat de Europese industrie leidend kan zijn in de transitie naar klimaatneutraal en circulair”, aldus Virginia Janssens, Managing Director Plastics Europe:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Voor het toekomstbestendig maken van de industrie en versnellen van de dubbele transitie is acceptatie van chemische recycling met massabalans van vitaal belang. Daarvoor is meer en tijdige samenwerking essentieel; in de waardeketen en met beleidsmakers. Geen enkele private of publieke partij kan alleen tot werkbare oplossingen komen voor de complexe problemen in deze ongekende tijden.”  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ondanks de pandemie is de werkgelegenheid in de plastics industrie in 2021 op niveau gebleven. Met meer dan 1,5 miljoen werknemers en directe werkgelegenheid bleef de Europese kunststoffenindustrie een cruciale speler in de economie van de EU. De laatste cijfers over de wereldwijde plastics productie laten een toename zien, ook te verklaren uit het oplevingseffect na de pandemie van 2020. Het Europese aandeel in deze wereldwijde productie neemt echter voortdurend af: van 23% in 2006 tot 15% in 2021. Het concurrerend vermogen van de Europese industrie is hierdoor kwetsbaar in vergelijking met andere regio’s in de wereld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
