In 2020 ging het om 45% van het ingezamelde plastic afval dat voor recycling werd ingezet. Daarmee zit Nederland ruim boven het Europese gemiddelde van 35% en voert het de Europese ranglijst aan. Dat geldt ook voor de 65% van het ingezamelde plastic verpakkingsafval dat voor recycling wordt aangeboden. Desalniettemin belandt het merendeel van het ingezamelde plastic afval in de verbrandingsoven.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De Nederlandse cijfers over 2020 zijn afkomstig uit het eind april verschenen<a href=\"https:\/\/plasticseurope.org\/nl\/knowledge-hub\/een-circulaire-economie-voor-plastics-een-europees-overzicht\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Circulaire Economie voor Plastics <\/a>rapport. Gebaseerd op deze gedetailleerde studie naar de staat van het Europese plastic systeem zijn nu de verschillende plasticstromen voor Nederland in beeld gebracht. <a href=\"https:\/\/plasticseurope.org\/nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2022\/07\/PlasticsEurope-National_Onepager_NETHERLANDS.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">De Circulaire Economie voor Plastics in Nederland <\/a>zoomt in op productie, conversie, consumptie, afvalverwerking, recycling en het gebruik van gerecycled plastic in Nederland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Plastic afval voor chemische recycling<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naast dat de cijfers de voortgang richting circulaire plastics laten zien, bevestigen ze ook het beeld dat het nog niet snel genoeg gaat. Doordat het merendeel van het ingezamelde plastic afval (bijna 70%) nu nog wordt verbrand, laat Nederland kansen liggen. Waardevolle grondstof voor circulaire plastics gaan hierdoor verloren, als ook de kans om de uitstoot van CO<sub>2<\/sub> verder terug te dringen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plastics Europe pleit daarom al langer voor een versnelde verruiming van de mogelijkheden voor chemische recycling, als aanvulling op mechanische recycling. Door plastic afval dat nu moeilijk mechanisch recyclebaar is, of waarvoor het separaat scheiden en recyclen nu niet kostendekkend is, voor chemische recycling beschikbaar te maken. Door zich hier Europees voor in te zetten, doet Nederland recht aan de ambitie om koploper te zijn in de verdere technologische ontwikkeling van chemische recycling.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B<strong>elangrijkste<\/strong> <strong>ontwikkelingen uit een Circulaire Economie voor plastics Nederland<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Een aantal feiten en opvallende zaken op een rij:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>45% van het plastic afval in Nederland wordt ingezet voor recycling. Bijna 30% van het ingezamelde plastic afval wordt omgezet in recyclaat, dat \u2018virgin\u2019 plastic in nieuwe producten vervangt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nieuwe producten bevatten gemiddeld ca 12,5% recyclaat (in 2018 was dat nog ca. 10%).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Het verschil tussen de hoeveelheid plastics in gebruik en de hoeveelheid plastics die wordt afgedankt is groot. Belangrijkste verklaring hiervoor is dat plastics zijn verwerkt in producten met een lange levensduur. Deze zogeheten long-life plastics in de samenleving is onvoldoende in beeld. Verder onderzoek zal dit beter in beeld moeten brengen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In de bouw (Building &amp; Construction) wordt steeds meer plastic gebruikt. Denk aan leidingen, isolatiemateriaal, klimaatbeheersing en vloersystemen. Hierbij gaat het vaak om toepassingen met een lange levensduur en om toepassingen die de klimaatprestatie verbeteren.
