Plastics Europe blij met wereldwijd plastics akkoord<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plastics Europe steunt de ontwikkeling van een wereldwijd verdrag voor het aanpakken van plasticvervuiling en is blij met de resolutie van de 5e VN-Milieuconferentie (UNEA-5) in Nairobi. De resolutie roept op tot een wettelijk bindend instrument, met verplichtende en vrijwillige bepalingen, nader uit te werken door de ICN (Internal Negotiating Committee).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De resolutie benadrukt dat het noodzakelijk is om de verduurzaming van productie en consumptie van plastics in de gehele levenscyclus te bevorderen. Dit vergt maatregelen in de hele levenscyclus van plastics – upstream en downstream – en van product design tot het verstandig en milieuvriendelijk afdanken en verwerken van afval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Europese industrie zit volop in de actie-stand en neemt een leidende rol in de transitie naar een circulaire economie en toekomst zonder plasticvervuiling. De resolutie bevestigt het belang van beleid dat dit verder ondersteunt, toegespitst op de specifieke behoeften van onze industrie en waardeketens. Het toont ook de noodzaak en voordelen van actieve samenwerking en dialoog tussen onze industrie en alle relevante stakeholders.<\/p>Virginia Janssens – <\/strong>Managing Director, Plastics Europe<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Cruciaal is dat de resolutie erkent dat er niet \u00e9\u00e9n benadering is om het wereldwijde probleem van plasticvervuiling aan te pakken. En ook dat regeringen de flexibiliteit moeten hebben om maatregelen te nemen die lokaal passend zijn en daar in het juiste beleid zijn ingebed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plastic afval is onacceptabel in elk milieu. De UNEA-resolutie betekent een grote stap op weg naar een toekomst zonder plasticvervuiling, wat ook cruciaal is voor onze gezamenlijke klimaatambitie. We zijn ook blij dat de resolutie de vitale rol van plastics in onze samenleving onderkent. In de circulaire economie moeten we die waarde vasthouden en behouden, door onophoudelijk vast te houden aan de belangrijkste principes van de afvalhi\u00ebrarchie; reduceren, hergebruiken en recyclen.<\/p>Markus Steilemann –<\/strong> Plastics Europe President<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Zo staan de leden van Plastics Europe achter het doel van de EU om in 2030 30% van de plastic verpakkingen verplicht uit gerecycled materiaal te laten bestaan. Daarnaast heeft de industrie recent aangekondigd om 7.2 miljard euro te investeren in de doorbraaktechnologie van chemisch recyclen. Plastics Europe is ook actief partner van het EU Horizon 2020 project PlastiCircle<\/a>, gericht op de transformatie van afval naar waardevolle producten door innovaties in de belangrijkste stadia van afvalverwerking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Als industrie hebben we ons gecommitteerd aan de totstandkoming van positieve veranderingen met een blijvend effect. Daarom kijken we uit naar een voortzetting van onze actieve participatie en bijdrage aan de volgende fase van de onderhandelingen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
