Noord-Nederland is bezig zich snel te ontwikkelen tot Europese hotspot in plastic recycling. Met het NTCP als een van de absolute internationale sterspelers. Wat maakt deze kleurige hal in Heerenveen zo uniek dat bezoekers van heinde en ver toestromen?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toegepaste R&D voor recycling<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Na een rondleiding is het zonneklaar: wie echt stappen in plastic recycling wil zetten, moet bij het NTCP<\/a> in Heerenveen zijn. \u201cEn dat terwijl ik bij de start zei te hopen dat we maar zo\u2019n 10 jaar nodig zouden zijn\u201d, zegt Martine Brandsma, die als directeur ook het gezicht naar buiten is. Maar ze haast zich herhaaldelijk te benadrukken dat het teamwerk het echte fundament is voor het succes. \u201cDat van die 10 jaar was natuurlijk enigszins provocerend, maar dat we zo\u2019n gat wisten te vullen hadden we toen ook nog niet door. Al gauw bleken wij te kunnen voorzien in iets wat er voorheen niet was en waar voor de transitie zo dringend behoefte aan is: toegepast onderzoek en kwantatieve data. Alle partijen die stappen in plastic recycling willen zetten kunnen hier terecht en zien wij hier langskomen. Omdat we hier heel gericht tastbaar kunnen maken wat wel en niet kan en of iets op een realistische manier toepasbaar is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investering in verdere uitbreiding<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wat goed is komt snel, zo blijkt maar weer. \u201cWe voelden de urgentie en druk uit de markt. Tegelijk was voor ons belangrijk om verschillende routes te kunnen ondersteunen. En om balans te houden in het tegelijkertijd kunnen innoveren en ontwikkelen\u201d, verklaart Martine de onafhankelijke positionering. Twee jaar na het eerste plan, stond de hal er en ging in mei 2020 de eerste sorteerlijn van start. Om er twee jaar later een waslijn aan toe te voegen. En nu, weer twee jaar later, staat een nieuwe uitbreiding op stapel. Met de verworven investering van 12 miljoen wordt een nieuwe hal neergezet. Bestaande installaties worden uitgebreid en met nieuwe, meer experimentele installaties gaat invulling gegeven worden aan een zes jaar lopend Groeifondsprogramma. \u201cMet onze open infrastructuur kunnen we de markt dan nog beter ondersteunen bij het testen en ontwikkelen van technologie van de toekomst. Denk aan geavanceerde droogwassing en technieken voor decontaminatie.\u201d Het NTCP groeit hiermee uit tot een gevestigd duurzaam kennisinstituut, met een staf van 35 tot 45 werknemers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wij kunnen hier zo veel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het maakt dat het NTCP zich een nog uniekere positie zal verwerven in het Europese en zelfs mondiale landschap voor circulair plastic. \u201c70% van de projecten is internationaal. We zijn er voor de keten en dat is niet aan grenzen gebonden. Maar de stevige wortels in de regio zijn onmisbaar. Naast de ondersteuning vanuit de overheid, en vooral ook de investering en support vanuit het Ministerie van IenW, gaat het om makkelijk van de grond komende samenwerkingen met diverse industri\u00eble partners, onderzoeks- en kennisinstellingen. Wat dat betreft kunnen we in Nederland zo veel. Dat maakt mij optimistisch over een toekomst met circulair plastic\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Met een delegatie van de Ministeries van IenW en EZK waren we eind mei op werkbezoek bij het NTCP. Het bezoek was onderdeel van een tweedaagse studietour door Noord-Nederland.
