De urgentie&nbsp;om tot&nbsp;een circulaire economie voor plastics te komen wordt steeds groter. Want dat is in onze ogen de sleutel tot het aanpakken, oplossen en stoppen van de wereldwijde plasticvervuiling. Plastics Europe heeft zich dan ook aangesloten bij de VN-resolutie uit 2022 voor het tot stand brengen van een een bindend verdrag voor het stoppen van plasticvervuiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-systemiq-green-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-fb1bf39988c4bfca8257eeeeae82d60b\"><strong>Global Plastics Treaty (GPT)<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Het streven was om in 2025 een mondiaal verdrag tot hebben waaraan alle VN\u2011lidstaten zijn gebonden. De inzet van deze Global Plastics Treaty (GPT) is het wereldwijd terugdringen van plasticvervuiling, met als doel een reductie van ten minste 80 procent in 2040.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De onderhandelingen over een Global Plastics Treaty, die plaatsvinden onder leiding van het Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution (INC), hebben in 2025 echter niet tot overeenstemming geleid. Tijdens de vijfde onderhandelingsronde en de daaropvolgende hervatte sessie in Gen\u00e8ve slaagden VN\u2011lidstaten er niet in consensus te bereiken over de inhoud van het verdrag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plastics Europe neemt actief deel aan het INC\u2011proces en blijft zich inzetten voor de totstandkoming van een effectief en wereldwijd gedragen verdrag. Wij roepen op tot het hervatten van de onderhandelingen. In de transitie naar een duurzaam Europees plasticsysteem staan een aantal thema\u2019s centraal. Circulariteit, klimaat, duurzaam gebruik, gezondheid en innovaties zijn de kernwoorden waarop de ambities van onze industrie zijn gericht.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCirculariteit\n\n\n\nCirculariteit is een van de snelste, meest betaalbare, effectieve en betrouwbare methodes voor het reduceren van CO2-emissies in het plasticsysteem. Circulaire maatregelen leveren op de korte tot middellange termijn de grootste bijdrage aan een reductie van emissies die doorwerken in de hele keten. Een circulaire plasticeconomie onderkent en benut de waarde van plastic als bron voor duurzame producten en toepassingen, met zo min mogelijk milieu-impact.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCirculariteit\n\n\n\nKlimaat \n\n\n\nDuurzaam gebruik\n\n\n\nGezondheid en plastics\n\n\n\nInnovaties\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKlimaat\n\n\n\nDe ernst van de klimaatcrisis vraagt om urgente maatregelen. Plastics Europe en haar leden steunen de doelen van EU Green Deal om emissies in 2050 terug te dringen naar netto-nul. Veel technologie\u00ebn die nodig zijn om de uitstoot van de industrie verder terug te dringen staan nu nog in de kinderschoenen , maar zullen de komende decennia verder opgeschaald worden.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuurzaam gebruik\n\n\n\nDuurzaam gebruik van plastic wil zeggen dat productie en gebruik van plastictoepassingen veilig en gezond is en geen schade toebrengt aan mens en milieu.\n\n\n\nOnze leden werken continu aan maatregelen om de veiligheid van plastics te waarborgen en om potentieel negatieve gevolgen voor de gezondheid voor te zijn. Naast onderzoeken en testen investeren ze in het ontwikkelen van nieuwe inzichten en methodologie\u00ebn, bijvoorbeeld op het terrein van microplastics.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGezondheid en plastics\n\n\n\nDe moderne gezondheidszorg zou niet bestaan zonder de vele plasticgebaseerde medische toepassingen die we als vanzelfsprekend beschouwen.\n\n\n\nOmdat er simpelweg (nog) geen geschikte alternatieven zijn, blijven plastics een belangrijke rol spelen in alle facetten van de gezondheidszorg. \n\n\n\nMaar het gebruik van plastic heeft ook nadelen en we zijn ons bewust van de noodzaak de veiligheid van plastic te waarborgen.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInnovaties\n\n\n\nPlastic-innovaties staan aan de basis van nieuwe ontwikkelingen in zo ongeveer elke sector. Denk aan de auto-industrie, bouw, verpakkingen, consumptiegoederen, gezondheidszorg en groene energie. Van de productie van grondstoffen tot de productie en het gebruik van plastics, tot de inzameling, sortering en verwerking aan het einde van de levensduur. Samenwerken is cruciaal voor het slagen van de transitie naar een circulair en duurzaam plastics systeem.Samenwerking in de waardeketenIn de plastic waardeketen werken we met veel partijen al volop samen aan ontwikkelingen als het design van nieuwe systemen, cultuur- en gedragsverandering, beter presterende producten, ecodesign innovatie en nieuwe infrastructuur. Onze leden boeken al veel vooruitgang in de verduurzaming van &nbsp;hun &nbsp;operationele processen en investeren volop in innovaties zoals mechanische en chemische recyclingtechnologie\u00ebn, hernieuwbare en koolstofarme energie en ontwikkeling en opschaling &nbsp;van plastic uit alternatieve koolstofbronnen (biobased en CO2).\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProjecten in de waardeketen\n\n\n\nNationale projecten\n\n\n\nEuropese programma&#8217;s\n\n\n\nMondiale initiatieven\n\n\n\n\n\nSamenwerken tegen plastic vervuilingAls plastic producenten onderkennen we het plastic afvalprobleem en nemen we onze verantwoordelijkheid in het oplossen ervan. &nbsp;Dat doen we in samenwerking met publieke en private partijen. Via allianties op lokaal, nationaal en mondiaal niveau zetten we ons in voor het stimuleren van recycling, hergebruik en het opruimen van plastic afval in het milieu. &nbsp;We zijn nauw betrokken bij de ontwikkeling van wereldwijd Plasticverdrag, met bindende voorwaarden voor een oplossing van het plastic afvalprobleem per 2040.\n\n\n\nSamenwerken aan duurzaam plasticAls industrie investeren we veel in wetenschappelijk onderzoek en in het actief uitdragen en delen van kennis en elen informatie met alle belanghebbenden. &nbsp;We dragen bij aan de ontwikkeling van standaard methodologie\u00ebn, protocollen en analysemethoden, die noodzakelijk zijn voor betrouwbare data en gegevensopbouw over bijvoorbeeld de gevolgen van microplastics. Naast dat we hier nauw samenwerken met de wetenschappelijke wereld, zijn ook &nbsp;specialisten uit bijvoorbeeld de cosmetica- of de auto-industrie hier nauw bij betrokken. &nbsp;\n\n\n\nSamenwerken aan innovatiesHet is uitdagend om &nbsp;producten en toepassingen te ontwikkelen die tegelijk hoogwaardig \u00e9n duurzaam zijn. Het vergt veel innovatieve technologie\u00ebn, te ontwikkelen door de beste wetenschappers, technici en vernieuwende denkers. Om die redenblijven we investeren in lange-termijn-samenwerkingen met universiteiten en hogescholen, overheden, burgers, lokale gemeenschappen en andere bedrijven in de waardeketen.\n\n\n\nDoor onze continue focus op innovatie en grote investeringen in onderzoek en ontwikkeling, procestechnologie en milieubescherming, weten we als industrie steeds meer voortgang en resultaat te boeken op het gebied van duurzaam plastics. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEuropese programma&#8217;s\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLIFE Blue Lakes  \n\n\n\nMicroplastics in Europe\u2019s lakes: tackling a rising concern\n\n\n\nThe LIFE Blue Lakes project aims to reduce and prevent the presence of microplastics in the Italian and German lakes through a series of actions involving institutions, local authorities, companies and citizens.\n\n\n\n\n\nPlastiCircle\n\n\n\nPlastiCircle comprises 20 European organisations, including Plastics Europe, that have joined forces to reinvent the way we treat plastic packaging. Funded by the EU\u2019s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, PlastiCircle is rolling out innovations in waste collection, transport, sorting and recycling, and aims to transform plastic packaging waste into valuable products. Developments include smart containers to increase collection rates of plastic waste, cost-effective waste transport systems connected to IoT cloud platforms, innovative optical sorting technologies to improve sorting, and new recycled plastic products.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCircular Plastics Alliance\n\n\n\nWorking with public and private partners via alliances at the local, national and global levels to encourage appropriate recycling, reuse and recovery of plastic waste pollution. This included awareness-raising materials that were communicated across France on outdoor and social media platforms.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Plastic Museum\n\n\n\nThe Plastic Museum, the first 100% recyclable museum in the world, was born with the idea of being disassembled on International Recycling Day. Built entirely with plastics, it was broken down, reused and recycled in floors, walls and ceilings. The platform will create a multi-stakeholder group to identify the barriers and opportunities to increase recycling in Europe, and work towards ensuring the supply of high-quality recycled plastics for the European market. This will drive economic growth and the creation of new jobs as Europe moves towards a more circular economy.\n\n\n\n\n\nStyrenics Circular Solutions\n\n\n\nStyrenics Circular Solutions (SCS) is a joint value chain initiative founded in 2018 by leading styrenics manufacturers, with membership continuously expanding across the value chain. They are the unified driving force to make the circular economy a reality for styrenic plastics, including polystyrene, through innovative recycling technologies and partner-driven solutions.\n\n\n\n\n\nOperation Clean Sweep\u00ae\n\n\n\nOperation Clean Sweep\u00ae is an international programme designed to prevent the loss of plastic granules during handling by various plastics value chain entities and their release into the environment. Companies that sign the European OCS pledge commit to a number of key actions designed to prevent spillage into the environment.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEsPl\u00e1sticos\n\n\n\nPlastics Europe is a partner of EsPl\u00e1sticos, the Spanish plastics value chain platform. This initiative allows the Spanish plastics sector to better engage with policymakers and opinion leaders and demonstrate its value to society and contribution to sustainable development.\n\n\n\n\n\n#InnovaPl\u00e1sticos\n\n\n\nWe partnered with SusChem Spain to create #InnovaPl\u00e1sticos \u2013 an annual event on plastics innovation for a low-carbon circular economy. Supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, #InnovaPl\u00e1sticos shares state-of-the-art developments and success stories from member companies, brand owners, and start-ups.\n\n\n\n\n\nAntwerp Zero Pellet Loss Platform\n\n\n\nIn Belgium, we collaborate with essenscia polymatters on a number of programmes. Plastics Europe also leads the Antwerp Zero Pellet Loss Platform \u2013 a value chain initiative gathering plastics producers, logistics and transport companies active in the Port of Antwerp \u2013 to initiate collective actions to tackle pellet loss in the Port of Antwerp. This includes a biennial Operation Clean Sweep\u00ae of the Port of Antwerp activity report and the launch of a sweeping plan for the port roads. In addition, there are regular best practice exchanges and awareness-raising communication sessions about pellet loss prevention.
