Omdat het kan omgaan met complexe plastic afvalstromen, zoals folies of laminaten, kan chemische recycling worden gebruikt voor plastic afval dat anders zou resulteren in verbranding of stort. Met 67,5% van het na-verbruik plastic afval dat in Europa naar stortplaatsen en energieterugwinning gaat, is er duidelijk potentieel voor verbetering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Omdat chemische recycling polymeren afbreekt tot hun bouwstenen, maakt het ook de productie van gerecycled plastic (recyclaat) met eigenschappen van nieuw plastic mogelijk, dat kan worden gebruikt in veeleisende toepassingen, zoals voedselcontact. De Europese Commissie heeft zeer ambitieuze circulaire doelstellingen voor plastics gesteld. Regulerende doelen van de recent herziene afvalrichtlijnen zijn maximaal 10% storten van gemeentelijk afval tegen 2035, 50% recycling van plastic verpakkingen tegen 2025 en 55% tegen 2030. In deze context vertegenwoordigt chemische recycling een positieve stap naar het verminderen van afval en bijdragen aan een circulaire economie voor plastics. Er is ook een groot potentieel voor nieuwe banen naarmate de sector zich ontwikkelt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio is-style-medium\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/plasticseurope.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/1640397_CeficChemicalRecycling_060523-1024x693.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8902\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Significante investeringen in recyclingtechnologie<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hebben een significante toename gezien in geplande investeringen in chemische recycling: van EUR 2,6 miljard in 2025 naar EUR 8 miljard in 2030. De productie van gerecycled plastic wordt geschat op 0,9 Mt in 2025 en 2,8 Mt in 2030. Met deze geplande bijdrage speelt Plastics Europe een leidende rol in het realiseren van het doel van de Circular Plastics Alliance van de Europese Commissie van 10 Mt gerecycled plastic gebruikt in Europese producten tegen 2025.
