Februar 2026<\/strong> \u2013 Beim European Industry Summit in Antwerpen haben Vertreter aus Politik und Industrie am 11. Februar 2026 \u00fcber die Wettbewerbsf\u00e4higkeit der europ\u00e4ischen Wirtschaft beraten. Thema waren unter anderem Energiepreise, Investitionsbedingungen und die Zukunft der industriellen Produktion in der EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Im Anschluss wandte sich der Verband der Kunststofferzeuger, Plastics Europe, mit einem offenen Brief an die Staats- und Regierungschefs der Mitgliedstaaten, darunter auch an Bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer is-style-small\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Europa stehe vor einer \u201estrategischen Entscheidung\u201c<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eEntweder wir sch\u00fctzen unsere industrielle Basis. Oder wir \u00fcberlassen sie globalen Wettbewerbern\u201c, hei\u00dft es im Brief. Nach Angaben des Verbands ist der Anteil Europas an der weltweiten Kunststoffproduktion von 22 Prozent im Jahr 2006 auf 12 Prozent im Jahr 2024 gesunken. Ursache sei nicht eine sinkende Nachfrage, sondern die Verlagerung von Investitionen in Regionen, in denen die Wettbewerbsbedingungen besser seien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plastics Europe sieht nun die EU-Mitgliedstaaten in der Verantwortung. Es brauche mehr Planungssicherheit f\u00fcr Investitionen, bezahlbare Energie und eine gezielte Nutzung der Einnahmen aus dem Emissionshandel, um Investitionen in Kreislaufwirtschaftstechnologien zu f\u00f6rdern, die zur Reduzierung von CO2-Emissionen beitragen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eWenn in der Kunststoffproduktion Anlagen geschlossen werden, kommen sie meist nicht zur\u00fcck\u201c, betont Dr. Christine Bunte, Hauptgesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrerin von Plastics Europe Deutschland. \u201eDaf\u00fcr sind gerade bei energieintensiven Gro\u00dfanlagen die Anlagenkosten zu hoch und die Investitionszyklen zu lang. Wir brauchen daher Rahmenbedingungen, die Investitionen und Arbeitspl\u00e4tze in Europa halten.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nach Angaben von Plastics Europe besch\u00e4ftigt die Kunststoffindustrie in Europa rund 1,5 Millionen Menschen und erwirtschaftet einen Jahresumsatz von etwa 400 Milliarden Euro. Mehr als 50.000 Unternehmen sind entlang der Wertsch\u00f6pfungskette t\u00e4tig. In Deutschland ist die Branche besonders stark vertreten.
